We offer two options for turtle substrates, including both riverbed sand and small pebbles. Soft-shelled turtles, as well as mata mata turtles, tend to prefer sand substrates. The Zoo Med digital infrared thermometer is a small-sized thermometer that displays the basking surface temperature by clicking a single button. Turtles require calcium and D3 supplementation in captivity in order for proper bone and shell growth. Calcium deficiency is a common and serious problem with captive turtles who are not afforded this additive to their diet.
